The Experiential Education Methodology

The FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model

What is the FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model?

The FND Integrative Pathophysiological model has been proposed by Dr. Velazquez to help scientists, clinicians and the world population prevent and treat FND in a more effective manner, given the poor prognosis that still nowadays affect the FND population, despite the utilization of Physical Therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Multidisciplinary treatment programs. Please read the original research article explaining the scientific evidence that supports the model and how you could start applying it and utilizing it in clinical practice.

What is the Experiential Education Methodology?

The Experiential Education Methodology is an educational methodology designed by Dr. Velazquez to help scientists, clinicians, wellness providers, therapists, FND patients and their families, learn, understand, practice and apply to their daily personal and professional lives the concepts outlined in the FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model.

For example, there is cognitive-type of education such as learning mathematics, there is physical education such as strength training or yoga, and there are also spiritual or religious practices that could lead us to experience spiritual concepts. The Experiential Education Methodology goes beyond traditional single educational models, and combines them all, promoting deeper and more effective learning in the individuals, as they experience the teachings and learnings through the cognitive mind, the physical body, the emotional and spiritual neuronal networks. This allows for faster and more efficient learning of the concepts outlined in the FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model, easily equipping professionals, FND patients and families, with tools that could ultimately lead to greater FND prevention and healing.

Pilots investigational studies testing the model have demonstrated success and will be presented in the 2024 FND Society Meeting!

Enrollment to participate in the Awaken Level 1 Full 8-week Course, Awaken Level 1 4-week Trial, Awaken Level 2 course is now open!

For whom is the study of the FND Pathophysiological Model using the Experiential Education Methodology?

For everyone! Because only if we all truly, deeply and easily learn this material, we will be able to together, heal and prevent Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) and many other Functional Disorders (FD) in a global manner. Remember that there are millions of people world-wide in need of more FND understanding, healing and prevention. Learn about the similarities and differences between FND and FD by reading an article in this website, or reviewing my literature review scientific article.

The Experiential Educational Model, founded in the FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model is in this manner, suitable for healthcare, wellness professionals, patients and family members. In our classes all populations are together, learning from one-another! This is particularly important given the traditionally large misunderstandings between the medical community and the FND population. During the courses we also talk about opportunities to collaborate in research and to enhance FND awareness world-wide.

Come and join us! Let us become united for FND wisdom, awareness and prevention!

What happens in an Experiential Education Class? What material is reviewed? What tools and techniques are being taught?

Each level and course is slightly different, but as a general rule the courses follow the Holocene Methodology, and the Science and Shamanism formula, which means that at all points we review and learn concepts considering our human origin and evolution, derived and dependent on nature, and combine and contrast that wisdom with modern scientific evidence, tools and techniques.

Thus, we study, in an Experiential manner, the scientific theory of the FND Integrative Pathophysiological Model following the Holocene Method by giving attention to Mind-Body-Emotions-Spirit

Modern tools and techniques derived from multiple major philosophies, schools of thought and therapies are utilized: 1) Somatics and Somatic Experiencing to learn to tend to the Physical Body, 2) Emotionally Focused modalities to learn to target emotional networks or limbic system, 3) CBT concepts to learn about the cognitive mind, 4)  Hypnosis derived techniques to learn to tend to the subconscious mind, 5) Shamanism, Spirituality and Psychedelic derived concepts to tend to our spiritual needs.

In addition, all those tools and modalities are learned, understood, practiced and applied in an Experiential manner in only a few weeks!
